In 1760 a baroque synagogue was built in Heřmanův Městec, a direct predecessor of the present building. The old Baroque synagogue was rebuilt from the foundations into the present Neo-Romanesque building in 1870. The adjacent one-storey building of the former Jewish school was built in 1862. The reconstruction of the former synagogue and the former Jewish school was completed in 2001. The buildings were restored to their original artistic appearance. The former Jewish school houses a permanent art gallery.
